No scheduling, no meeting IDs, no passwords to fumble with. Share the link once with a client and they can use it forever. For freelancers and consultants who have regular calls with the same people, this removes all friction.

Browser-Only, On Purpose

Everything runs in the browser. WebRTC handles the video, no plugins or downloads needed. Guests don't need accounts. Click the link, allow camera/mic, you're in. This matters more than you'd think. When a 65-year-old client needs to join a call, "click this link" works. "Download this app, create an account, enter a meeting ID" doesn't. Whereby understood this early and built around it.

Here's what most people miss about Whereby: they have a serious developer API. Whereby Embedded lets you add video calling to your own app or website with a few lines of code. Telehealth platforms, ed-tech products, and consulting marketplaces use Whereby Embedded to white-label video without building their own infrastructure. Pricing is per-minute rather than per-seat, starting at $0.04/participant/minute.

Where It Stops Making Sense

Whereby is deliberately limited. The free plan supports one room with up to 100 participants but only 45-minute group meetings. No recording on free. No AI features on any plan. No webinars, no breakout rooms (Pro only), no phone dial-in. If you need more than 200 participants, you're out of luck. Whereby chose simplicity over features, and that's fine — but once your company hits 50+ employees with complex meeting needs, you'll outgrow it fast.
