Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Chicago, Hippo has stayed deliberately focused on the SMB and mid-market. You won't find AI-driven predictive maintenance or IoT integrations here. What you will find is a clean interface that maintenance techs actually use without extensive training.

What Works Well

The work order module is the core, and it's solid. Technicians can create, assign, and close work orders from their phones. Managers get a dashboard showing open orders by priority and tech. Preventive maintenance scheduling handles daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal tasks with automatic work order generation.

Asset management tracks equipment with maintenance history, attached manuals, and parts lists. The inventory module handles spare parts with minimum stock alerts—useful for catching that you're out of HVAC filters before you actually need them.

The mobile app runs on iOS and Android. Photos can be attached to work orders directly from the field, which matters when you're trying to document that a piece of equipment was already damaged before the tech arrived.

The Real Limitations

Hippo isn't built for complex multi-site enterprise deployments. Reporting is functional but basic—you'll get standard charts and exports, not the sophisticated analytics that Maintenance Connection or IBM Maximo offer. Integrations are limited compared to Fiix or UpKeep.

The $35/user/month Starter plan has real restrictions. You'll likely need Plus ($55/user/month) or Pro ($75/user/month) for features like custom reports and advanced PM scheduling.

Who Should Use Hippo

Non-profits, K-12 schools, small manufacturers, and property management companies with 5-25 maintenance staff. If your current system is spreadsheets and email, Hippo is a significant upgrade. If you need multi-site enterprise features, look elsewhere.
