More Than Just Meetings

Teams processed 320 million monthly active users by late 2023 and keeps growing. It's not a video tool that added chat — it's a collaboration platform that happens to do video really well. Persistent channels, threaded conversations, shared files, and deep Office integration create a workspace that many teams never leave. That's both the strength and the trap.

The Microsoft 365 Advantage

Here's the honest truth: if your company runs on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Teams is the obvious choice. Co-authoring a document while on a Teams call, pulling up a SharePoint file mid-meeting, scheduling through Outlook — it's seamless. Copilot AI integration means meeting transcripts, summaries, and action items happen automatically. No other video platform touches this level of Office integration.

Meeting Quality in 2026

Teams meetings have improved dramatically. Gallery view supports 49 simultaneous video feeds. Together Mode puts everyone in a virtual shared space. Breakout rooms work smoothly now (they were buggy at launch). Noise suppression is excellent. Where Teams still lags behind Zoom: join time is 3-5 seconds slower, and the app consumes more RAM — easily 800MB-1.2GB during meetings. On older laptops, that matters.

The Complexity Problem

Teams tries to do everything, and that creates a learning curve. New users get lost navigating channels, tabs, chats, and meetings. The notification system is overwhelming by default. File management gets confusing when documents live across Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive. Power users love the depth. Everyone else wishes it were simpler.
